Ivan Jurakic and I have been meeting downtown on Mondays for most of February. We choose a cheap place for a bahn mi, falafel, soup, or bifana, and then shoot the shit for a little bit before sifting through two Dropbox accounts and our assorted hard drives to see how big the digital pile of stuff is . Ivan is a titch OCD and I’m a titch hoarder, so the raw data is surprisingly rich and eccentric. Sifting through two decades worth of work is also an interesting kind of reckoning between two opposing feelings: ‘wow, we’ve done a lot’ / ‘wow, this could have been so much more’.

For me the best moments are finding pictures like the one above, a sap bucket filled with burnt sugar, part of an idea to ‘tap’ hydro and telephone poles in a city as a kind of subversive installation/performance. The photo is from ten years ago, a night where we would gather at the studio and talk and talk and argue and talk, and then finish with a kind of test drive during the late hours when the industrial end of the city is fast asleep and feels gloriously abandoned.
